From the Arctic to America, artist Leonid Tishkov has travelled the world with his illuminated crescent-shaped moon, bringing a sense of lyricism, and sometimes whimsy, to the places he lands.
Jean-Michel Basquiat, Crosby Street, 1983
The photographs (above) are three of twelve portraits taken of Jean-Michel Basquiat in a loft at 101 Crosby Street, New York, where Basquiat was living at the time.
Marcopoulos took a few close-ups of Basquiat and was then going to take a few photographs of the artist painting soon thereafter. However, Basquiat had a flight to Japan to catch and wanted to take a bath (there was no shower in the loft) before leaving. He allowed Marcopoulos to photograph him in the bath.
Marcopoulos’ book Out to Lunch features all twelve of the photographs. It is a limited edition book published by Andrew Roth.
